Dr Roger Pinnington
Senior Research Fellow, Dynamics Group

Roger Pinnington graduated with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton in 1974. He subsequently registered for a Masters degree in Sound and Vibration Studies, also at the University of Southampton, graduating in 1975 with a thesis on Acoustic Finite Elements. Following this, he was employed for two years at the Plessey Marine Research Unit in Templecombe where he worked on underwater sound radiation. In 1977 he returned to the University of Southampton to begin a PhD programme under the guidance of Professor R G White. He completed his PhD in 1982 with a thesis entitled Vibrational Power Transmission from Sources to Substructures. Later that year he became a Lecturer in ISVR and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1992.
Areas of Speciality and Interest
Vibrational power transmission; vibration isolation and control; vibration transmission and modelling of large, heavily-damped structures or spaces. Vibration of fluid-filled pipes, saturated foam, actuator and transducer design. Dynamic properties of material testing; vibration damping; vibration and sound of automotive tyres.

Experimental or approximate methods based on wave decomposition, SEA, or impedance coupling.
